About Me
Charlene Flanagan has always loved the written word. She began writing poetry at the age of 10, encouraged by her father who was ever eager to provide constructive criticism. She took her love for the English language a step further when she graduated in English Literature, did her post graduation in journalism and mass communication, and proceeded to work in the media for over a decade. The former Executive Editor of Mother & Baby, India, her bylines have appeared in renowned publications such as Femina, Man’s World, and The Free Press Journal, among others. Her writing particularly centres around relationships and sex. Her many creative pursuits have encouraged her to dabble in various arts and crafts, but her first love has always remained poetry. She spends a lot of time reading and prefers thrillers and the macabre, an interest she shares with her sister. She holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Mumbai and currently works in Mumbai as a Public Relations consultant. When she's not spending time with her loved ones and friends, you'll probably find her binge watching a show on Netflix.
Entanglements
A poetic journey through love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, exploring the complex facets of human emotion.
Entanglements reflects what it's like to be loved, to have your heart broken, and find yourself faced with uncertainties. The poems in this anthology echo the immeasurable depths of feeling. From a first love, an unrequited love, to the one that got away, this collection sings of affection, attachment, longing, lust, and even pretence. Employing a variety of styles and metre, this collection, in its rich imagery and lyrical verses, is bound to evoke different reactions at the turn of every page. These poems possess the power to trigger memories-good and bad-and leave an impact long after you've turned the last page. Entanglements is an anthology that embodies all the beauty, intensity, and complexities of human emotion.
Khotachiwadi Chronicles: Aunty Perpetual & the Fall of House Rodrigues
Follow Perpetual down a rabbit hole of suspense and drama, where nosy curiosity collides with unexpected surprises.
Set in the charming South Bombay Catholic neighbourhood of Khotachiwadi, the story follows the well-meaning and nosy Perpetual Fernandes, a 50-something widow with a knack for uncovering neighbourhood secrets. As the self-appointed guardian of her community's morals, Perpetual is drawn into a web of intrigue when she witnesses Ronnie, the youngest Rodrigues boy, committing some less-than-honourable acts. Determined to protect the sanctity of her beloved neighbourhood, Perpetual dives into the lives of the Rodrigues family, long respected but now teetering on scandal. What starts as innocent gossip soon leads her to uncover deeper, darker secrets about their plans for the neighbourhood. As Perpetual balances her love for drama with a genuine desire for justice, she must decide whether to expose the Rodrigues family's fall from grace or find a way to bring them back to the straight and narrow. Packed with humour, vivid details, and the heart of a tight-knit community. Khotachiwadi Chronicles is a tale of secrets, resilience, and redemption that captures the unique spirit of the Catholics of old Bombay.

A refreshing read that takes to Bombay
I spent a week in Chuim village in Bombay and this book made me nostalgic for those days, those lanes and that culture. It's a whole different world when Catholicism mixes with the air of Bombay and it is a wonderful world to experience through a story as comforting as this one. This book offers everything that its blurb promises and more. The writing is beautifully sophisticated and the characters are equally loveable and annoying, which is a trait of a well written book. The book is an ode to the author's childhood, the people from it and even to its food, architecture and culture. I loved the dialogues in the book and the dialect of the community they brought out. We all know an Aunty Perpetual in real life and we can even live with them in peace as long as they don't get an air of our personal matters as a doomed generation. Its a light read with an appetite for drama. A must read for anyone who wants to escape into a story.
